I am officially patented!
Well, I'm not patented, but I wrote software that is! My first programming gig was at a real estate lawfirm. I wrote a web-based application that generates HUD-1 settlement statements and disperses payments digitally. (essentially, it's that giant stack of documents you sign when you buy a house)
This was the first of it's kind in the industry, and the lawfirm wanted to patent their invention. I received inventor credit because I wrote the app and the tech portion of the patent. This was submitted to the US Patient office way back in 2003, but it was just awarded the patent last month.
A fancy plaque is on its way, so I can hang it up in my cube.

...now if only I could get royalties. :P

Congratulations trufun! That is so awesome. I hope to one day write a piece of software that is used professionally whether it be a game or a business application.

Congratulations, that's really awesome. Working with those documents is a major pain in the ass, so if you've made that process simpler, I salute you.
Re: I am officially patented!
grats man, woking at IBM you'll grab a ton of those. some times you get royalties. but 99.999 percent of the time those are just for show and no dough.
on a side note. IBM patents the most shit of any single body yearly.

they probably invent or w/e as much as any other company, but as they're a company known for doing it "by the books", they patent the shit out of things. They don't want any competition, because they may not be able to afford it.avansc wrote:on a side note. IBM patents the most shit of any single body yearly.
Quit procrastinating and make something awesome.

Just got it in the mail yesterday. It's now proudly displayed in my cube, right next to the NES (currently running Ninja Gaiden II).
