I heard about this the other day. It's interesting but somehow I don't feel like it's going to take off all that well.

I don't think the Elder Scrolls format translates very well to an online experience. They're highly immersive, story driven games. Thousands of players ruin the immersion, and there's precious little room for a proper story in MMOs.
It isn't being developed directly by Bethesda, which could be seen as both a blessing and a curse. Bethesda's usual buggy work would ruin any MMO, but it's not going to have the same "vibe" that Bethesda's games have.
I'll probably try it just like I tried FFXIV, but I predict that I'll be too busy playing Guild Wars 2 to really get into it.

Skyrim, or any of the Elder Scrolls series, would be terrible in MMO form, as MMO means loads of little pubescent twelve year-olds begging for money and well...we'd just murder them during a Hold-Raid. It wouldn't fit well together at all. Skyrim is an amazing game...as an MMO, I can't even begin to explain how shit that'd be. Skyrim would be great though with a co-op feature, so I could raid with a friend, or a party of four over XBL, but that's all it'd be good with, as far as multi-player is concerned.
There's a reason Skyrim is amazing and most MMOs aren't. (SWTOR is pretty good. But that's only because I'm a Star Wars geek. :P )

Wow...I've just realised this is official. Hmm...this could quite possibly destroy the good name of Elder Scrolls. Wow!.... :\

Make sure to realize that the MMO is not being produced directly by Bethesda. I want to say that I read the MMO was being produced by another group or subset (ZeniMax Online Studios). With that said, they are not stupid (nobody can afford to be stupid in this economy) and I would lean to say that this game will deviate from the typical game play of their classic series. I do not want to see 12-year old's begging for cash either, but maybe they can make a MMO that brings something new to the table. It has been awhile since I have participated in an MMO, and I may take the opportunity with this title.

Apologies if that came off as an agressive defense.
In other queries, has the been an announcement for anything game specific? I was hoping for a PvP Arena styled battle way prior to the announcement of any Elder Scrolls MMO. I think they could really introduce an exciting gameplay experience via the Arena!
