So, something pretty cool happened today...

Random irrelevance that just didn't fit into other forums. Talk about anything.

So, something pretty cool happened today...

Post by trufun202 »

I got promoted from Software Engineer to Solutions Architect. :D

In my eight years of doing this professionally, this is my first promotion. It's been a long road, and I still feel that I have so much to learn. But, I've got a great manager that truly recognizes and appreciates the work that I do. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Please excuse any perceived gloating - I'm just a bit excited this evening, and I had to share with my ES buds. :)

Congratulations dude, it's great to hear when hard work is paid off.

Dear god, they actually ported ES to a piece of celery!

So... Let me be the first to ask: what exactly is a "solutions architect"?

Basically a programmer that is responsible for designing/building larger environments - systems that consist of multiple endpoints with several moving parts. Rather than building a single peice of software or application, it's more back-end heavy, taking into consideration the development process, life-cycle, and on-going maintenance of the system. In other words, building something that works for one user or one million users and isn't a bitch to maintain. ;)

Congrats! You are now, officially, doing the job I aspire to reach.

C'mon, you have every right to feel like a complete badass. ;)

Though it may only be a career to some, those of us who find passion and motivation in the field should easily be able to respect that achievement for what it is. I sincerely hope you enjoy the work more, and perhaps even some pay benefits? ;p

I have nothing but respect for you and your accomplishments. Your videos have always been inspirational, and have always supplied me with fresh ideas. I remember some of the architectural discussions the ES team has had the liberty of sharing with you--whether lua triggers, cutscene managers, etc, I have always been impressed by your 20/20 foresight. This is something that can only be gained through the 8+ years of experience, and it's about time it paid off. ;p

So, before this escalates into a drunken orgy, allow me to end by saying, once more,
