What the hell is wrong with this guy.
Despite this slight mental defect, I must say, this guy had some brilliant, groundbreaking ideas, such as the TV show/Video game "Teenage Wasteland"
which is probably light-years away from being finished :|
Also, the company has it's own comic book series published by marvel(yea, WTF?!).

World domination anyone?

This guy is just a dick, and is only a detriment to the games industry (not to mention all other forms of media), using the trademark of an absurdly common word to take down people doing honest work that in no way relates to him. He has absolutely no place in any association of game developers, much less any sort of control in one.

As I happen to be a member, you better believe I voted for that meeting.

Power trip comes to mind after reading that. Its like Paris Hilton trying to trademark "Thats Hot". Im shure at the time back in the 70s it wasnt a big deal just because gameing was in its infancy but now that things have grown its a very common thing to want to put into a game or movie. Its like just going through the dictionary and finding two very common words used in everyday life and trademark them just for shits and giggles.

Langdell's World domination plan

Click here to see the hidden message (It might contain spoilers)
and get this, one of the defendants was "SOFTDRINK, INC.", how low can you go?

EDIT:
It was for the mark "GAMER'S EDGE", if someone could tell me what the exact product was(A drink for gamers?), I'd appreciate it

Edge, the game, now pissing off indie developers :D
Shamus Young wrote:You tell Langdell that you'll rename the game to "Edgy". The Langdell lawyers fire back and say "not good enough." Apparently Langdell not only imagines he owns a word in the English language, but he also owns all derivative words. This would be like Game Stop suing you for making a game called "Stopper". While you're standing there dumbfounded, Langdell runs out and trademarks the word "Edgy" for himself, just to be sure....
Shamus Young wrote:...His only contribution to the industry is lawsuits, trademark trolling, and name poaching...

Had been watching this controversy for a while, I'm glad that it came to the resolution that it did. Having looked at Langdell's website and hearing about his activities I have to say this seems like the least that should have happened.

For anyone interested in the follow up here-

E-mail sent out today to all IGDA members:
IGDA wrote:A Special Meeting of the membership of IGDA will be held on October 3rd, 2009. The sole purpose of the meeting is to vote on whether IGDA Board of Directors member Tim Langdell (a) should serve the remainder of this term, or (b) should have his term concluded early (effective October 3rd, 2009). Mr. Langdell was elected by the membership on March 1st of 2009, and his term is scheduled to expire on March 1st of 2012; or (c) abstain from this vote.

And the stunning conclusion:
IGDA wrote:Monday Aug. 31st, Mt. Royal, NJ: The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) today announced that Tim Langdell has resigned from the IGDA Board of Directors, effective immediately. Dr Langdell had served on the Board since March 2009.
Maybe if he realized that he's a douche and everyone hates him, he'll chill the fuck out.

PS. LOL at being on the board for less than 6 months before everyone wanted to kick you off, and basically forced you to resign.

But you shouldn't forget that they probably gave him the seat in the first place.
I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.
