I made some headway in this largely due to finding this:

https://www.dreamspark.com/default.aspx

Freakin awesome. I had no idea this was available to us, even my professor recommended express to the class.

I may have some more questions soon.

Why would they have the express listed their because if you were verified then you could just get professional.

The express is for Visual Basic. So I think they give C++ and C# professional and the express of VB..

Anyways, Express is a very very good tool and you can do 99% of the stuff you need with it and the other 1% using freely available tools. The professional version is just that - it has tools aimed at large proffetional teams, which you will most probably not use (expect maybe for a bit of the redistribution tools, which i showed can be done without it in 99% of the cases especially in small projects).

So you just like bigger installs? I don't really see why you should even bother..

Yes, I understand this, and it's very cool. Still, do you need them?

I do not need them but once I learn C++ I might want to move on to C# or another language and plus I am in robotics at my school and I might want to use the Robotics Developer.

It's because of the size, the pro and standard editions takes HUGE space.

I found this link by chance, searched for a student discount for Visual Studio 2008 lol (I actually started a topic for it  http://bytes.com/topic/software-develop ... ual-studio).

Most universities have some way to obtain VS Pro for free.
I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.

I'm just in city college and I got it for free from www.dreamspark.com
It's a great program MS runs themselves. You just have to jump through a couple hoops to verify your student status, but it only took me about 15 minutes.

If you go about it this way does your license for the software only last as long as you are a student? Do you need to re-verify each year?
