I'd probably have to say Allegro. But I think it's all a matter of personal choice. Anyway there are tons of Allegro tutorials and references, if you need them, on the net. I'd link you to the Allegro Quick Reference, but it seems to be down now! =(

But yea, Allegro.

I use SDL. I don't know why. I can't remember what made me choose it over Allegro, although I remember the dilemma.. Just pick one ;) .

I like SDL better...Because I chose it first.

Allegro, from what I hear, is a bit more newbie-friendly, but I couldn't verify. I have only worked in SDL and hear that from others.

The battle against Allegro and SDL is a long one that many people get pulled into. I've dabbled a bit of both though. Allegro is there are more features "out of the box." SDL supports 2D hardware better than Allegro. I've done a little research since I posted earlier on this thread, and they both seem pretty even, but Allegro is just more noob friendly.

I think like DandyMcGee said "Just pick one". But to answer your question Allegro is more noob friendly

Same here, I find it to be really practical and fairly easy to use :)

I think I can program pretty well, it's my compiler that needs convincing!

And now a joke to lighten to mood :D

I wander what programming language anakin skywalker used to program C3-PO's AI back on tatooine? my guess is Jawa :P

I've used both, and Allegro is much more newb friendly, especially if you plan to use primitive stuff such as circles, rectangles, and triangles. Allegro has much better support for those. I switched to SDL myself though.. (I really don't like the input system Allegro has.)

A buddy of mine once yelled, "IF YOU KNOW C++ IT'S LIKE ALLEGRO DOESN'T EVEN CARE AND IGNORES COMMON LOGIC!" or something to that effect.

For what I've used was just some very basic stuff, and some stuff I picked up from Moosader's site.

SDL is more light weight afaik.
Even though allegro is easier to use.
If you're deving for PC that doesnt matter but if you are developong for some console it does.
I prefer SDL by the way, works on a charm in Dreamcast......

SDL also works well on PSP. And I also prefer SDL.
