I couldn't find my ancient "I'm learning guitar" topic, so I'm making a new one. xD

For those of you who are musically competent, I need some help. I'm learning the rhythm part of SuperNatual SuperSerious (REM) on guitar...I've found a ton of tabs that sound pretty accurate (atleast, good enough for me.)

I've got the intro as being

D a Em G

Which I'm sure is right. It's got a little rhythm there, which I'm playing like this:

(^=upstroke, v=downstroke,X=mute chord
D: v^v^
X
A: v^
X
Em: v^v^
X
A: v^

which sounds correct. My question is this about when the other instruments pick up...It's hard to tell exactly what rhythm they're using...The chords suggest he's still going with the above one, though it sounds like he's no longer muting the chords before changing...What do you think? Below is the part where he picks up the other rhythm...

Oh, yeah, and for those of you who haven't heard the song, here it is:

My apologies for asking such a nub-like questions--I'm now a bassist and rarely pick up a 6-string. >.<

Oh, yeah, and this song's got some nice, consistent bass lines for anyone looking for an easy song to pick up.
