Making a "Ram-o-meter" for Dreamcast.

Post by Falco Girgis »

Games like Viva la Samba with streaming music, assloads of images, customizable everything, ect. use a shitload of ram.

So I'm going to make a ram-o-meter that I can use during debug (and activate debug with keyboard once it's done).

It'll look like a loadbar showing how much of the total ram is being used.

I'm going to do the same thing I do to find filesize of a file I'm going to stream, only I'll find how many bytes are being used.

The only problem is that that isn't including variables. . .

Oh well, it shouldn't make that much of a difference, VLS is pretty efficient as far as that goes.

I thought there was a function that returns available memory.

That's kinda why I made this post. Nobody here gives a shit, I just want to know if there was a function that already does it or not.

Either way, it's not going to give you a visual representation.

That post sounded really negative toward me. :?

Lay off.

I don't get it... if you know the max amount of mem and the amount of mem already in use, you can make a visual representation. What are you talking about?

I think he means, the base function.
I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.

Are you saying that he is wondering if there is a function that actually draws out the amount of ram consumed in the form of a progress bar? If so.... I'm speechless.

Either way, it [(the base function) is] not going to give you a visual representation.

So he's making one. But that's what I read. Maybe he'll be kind enough to clear it up.

Jesus christ. I am asking for a base function. I said that a base function wouldn't draw to the screen how much ram is left.

Thus I'd have to draw to screen how much ram is left.

And yeah, that was really negative towards you. You've never contributed anything useful or even anything about your own developments and here I am spilling everything to you guys, sharing, letting people in on what's going on in my game dev.

So yeah, I'm not going to lay off. I've already said a billion times that this is just stupid.

Why not make game dev public?

'Cause GV's being a dick lately.
Nobody here gives a -blam!-, I just want to know if there was a function that already does it or not.

No, that one was true actually.

If he gave a shit, he would have had the courtesy to show us something of his.

It's not an obligation; it's like a mutual agreement there. That's part of what being a dev team is about: sharing ideas and knowledge and crap, not me sharing my stuff.

JSL, if you ever get married, you will get some horrible sex (if any). That kind of mentality the "omg! you're expecting something from me!?" isn't exactly appealing. It's just kind of a courtesy thing.

Flammage Topic movement?
This is a joke about unfunny jokes. And bad use of irony.
