Virtumon! - my old Pokemon clone

Post by trufun202 »

So I stumbled upon my ooooold-ass website from back in 1999, when I was a wee-little Pascal programmer.

I used this site as a reference when I made my "History of TRU FUN Entertainment" video, but I missed this project. I had COMPLETELY forgotten about it until today. I was working on a Pokemon clone called "Virtumon!" (Yes, I know...how clever.)

Here's my original description of the game:
Virtumon! is based on the ever-popular Pokemon game. However, Virtumon! features various quests outside of collecting monsters, as well as 25 original monsters and 5 different worlds!

Progress:
Graphics - 60% complete
Gameplay - 40% complete
Sound - 10% complete
Control - 85% complete
I'm pretty sure any remnants of this project are long gone, but it's nice to have at least some record of it!

Anyways, thought you guys might get a kick out of this, here are some screenshots:

EDIT: Nvm, my previous comment is now null and void. Very cool stuff!

Did you do the artwork yourself? That's some pretty good stuff.

I'd also like to point out that - yes it was 1999, yes I was 18, and yes I played Pokemon... For those of you who grew up with Pokemon, it probably isn't considered "kiddy" to play Pokemon, but back in the day, it was quite shameful.

"Pokemon?!? Isn't that those stupid trading cards 12 year olds collect?"

For the record, I didn't have the trading cards. Buuuut, I worked at Gamestop at the time and damnit, Pokemon Blue and Red were awesome!

I am still playing it, and will hopefully continue to play it until my fingers are full of the arthritis.

Yeah haha, I know what you mean.

That reminds me though, I was at a book store the other day that had a card store in the back, and all the kids playing were like 12, then there was this one 30 year old dude... At first I thought he worked there... I was wrong

It was before my time, and I still love those games! Shameful it may be, but it's still awesome!

The artwork is indeed quite impressive. It appears to be a great start to a Pokémon clone project.

Holy cow, I'm working on a Pokemon knock-off right now and this is really motivating to see!

P.S. I'm 21 and still playing Pokemon since the Red/Blue days.
