forum theme

Random irrelevance that just didn't fit into other forums. Talk about anything.

forum theme

Post by short »

Hey guys,

Is it possible to allow us (forum members) to use cutomized themes for this forum?

While I like the look of the forum, going from the front page (black background) to the forum is a huge contrast switch.

I looked it up online, I know there are phpbb themes or 'styles', anyone know if it is possible to allow us to switch styles on a per-user basis?

Just throwing this out there, I have a feeling all we know will change very soon once they switch over to the new site and ensue all areas of badassness. So if not now, maybe very soon.

Dear god, they actually ported ES to a piece of celery!

The problem isn't in allowing users to change styles, as much as having to create the new styles for you to choose from. It's not a priority right now, but has been mentioned before and may be considered in the future.

Edit: Just for kicks I installed a dark theme I think looks half-ass decent.

If you want to try it out for a change in scenary, go to your Board Preferences page and change "My board style" to "elysian_dark".

Other than hiding the subject of the most recent post on the index, I like it. The Chaos Rift looks strange to me using anything other than prosilver though.

Oh yes, much better... Feels like an entirely different forum now, in a good way. The default phpBB theme always felt cheap to me...

Although, the smilies have some white artifacts around them.

I can't say I expected so many people to notice this post, try it out, and like it in a matter of 12 hours.. perhaps the demand is higher than assumed. :)

For some reason the default style squishes it by about 50%. The others show the image in its original size.

Again, we've discussed this in the past. Falco prefers the default, crisp looking style because he feels it makes the forums look more professional. I do not disagree. I find it easier on my eyes than a dark theme in most cases. Regardless, I have no problem making other styles optional, but they will likely never be the default.

Interesting, I've always found dark easier on my eyes.

I've got no problem with it, I'm just saying how I feel personally. I've messed with phpBB a while back and felt like my forum was unprofessional because it had the old, default theme. Also since I've been into web design a lot in the past, using a default to me feels lazy. But if you made a conscious effort to keep it because it's what you want then it's another story.

Hey, if anyone wants to donate a custom phpbb3 theme.. I'm not against it. I simply don't have much desire to take the effort to make a respectable one myself right now.

You can download the existing ones and extract them. It's a bunch of css files, and maybe some php. Then you re-upload and install it.

Two things,

1) Can someone please ban 12?
2) Woah, I'm actually really loving the secondary theme...But can you make it bring you to the latest post when you view a thread rather than the first?
