I have completely missed this topic :P

I actually played in chess.com but i stopped, since I felt like one had to study the game full time for years just to get the slightest clue about how to play decently.

I'm interested in this, I'm not too good at chess, you'll defiantly see me trade off queens alot, and try to get into an endgame. You can see some examples of my game play at chess.com my user name is cndr.

Aighty, cool. That's four people thus far. I think MDK and another irc guy would join as well...I'm hoping we can get 8-12 before starting.

And I'm debating whether or not we should allow Winawer to join or not...

Avansc? Anybody else? You don't have to be expiernced--this is just for fun. We'll de decide on dates, times, format, and pairing when we get a few more.

what time controls are you thinking of, and tournament style (round robin, swiss, elimination)?

I'd say double round robin, knockout or both. Swiss pairing is not ideal for this type of event.

This was a really fun game when playing it. Look at the way he saved his queen from the white bishop (after a long think). If he'd have caught my mistake on 31 and taken my absolutely free knight, he would have taken the lead by a point and I would be forced to move rook to a1.

Allrighty! Anybody interested, I'm proposing double round robin with 30 minutes for time.

We will post all games here, and score updates. I'd like to get a final head-count, so anybody interested, please post now. So far, here's the player list:

I'd say we all play from chess.com, simply because it's got fair time controls and would be easier to coordinate if all from the same site. I'd very much like to spectate these games as they go on, but us all being present for all games isn't actually necessary. We can just as easily arrange the games to occur at times convenient for both contestants.

In double round robin, everybody plays every other player twice. You are awarded 1 point for a win, half a point for a draw, and zero points for a loss. At the end of the tournament, the person with the most points wins!

If there's a tie at the end, I say we settle it by "best of 3" Blitz (10 minute games) just to be epic. ;p

And finalllllyyy....

What does the winner get!? A virtual TROPHY!

Oh, and I considered adding a rule:

"Winawer is not allowed to play while sober."

However, I've recently been informed that he may actually be better while intoxicated. So, for the sake of dignity, we'll allow him to play in whatever state of mind he happens to be in at the time. ;p

I suck at chess.. but have fun! Maybe I'll spectate.
