Super Mario Allstars (SNES)

Post by Falco Girgis »

Graphics: 8.0
Sound: 9.0
Replay: 8.0
Gameplay: N/A

Review: Super Mario Allstars was released during the Nes' decline. Nintendo must've realized that not everybody had an NES anymore and some people had never played these titles. There were two different versions of this game released the same year. The first one had everything but Super Mario World. Not too long later, a second version was released by the name of Super Mario Allstars + Mario World. Both Mario Allstars were basically new and improved classics.

The graphics had certainly been improved. They went from 8-bit to 16-bit. Character sprites look about a billion times better. They have much more detail and color than the original. The backgrounds and such had way more detail and were animated most of the time. The far background wasn't just a single color, it was a colorful view of a landscape or something (especially in Mario Bros. 2). Graphics looked nice, but they certainly weren't the SNES' finest.

Sound was another total upgrade. All of the old Mario themes and such have been redone for the SNES. They sound almost orchestrated. Sound effects changed as well. The sound of Mario jumping, getting a mushroom, and such are much different now. Unless you were an old-skoo fanatic, the music would of probably changed for the better

Gameplay was different for every game in Mario Allstars. Find the review for the original game to see its gameplay. Remember, ignore everything else, as it is a review for the NES and not SNES version (except for Mario World, both versions are for SNES and are the same). Gameplay is still the same for both consoles.

To conclude this review, this game is a serious must have. No matter who you are, you still need to buy it. It'd still be worth buying if you only liked one game in it. Remember Super Mario Bros. 2? Nobody liked that. After I played it for the SNES, I thought it was one of the greatest Mario games ever. There is just so much improvement on every one of these titles. Who could resist?
