Yoshi's Cookie (NES)

Review: Yoshi's cookie doesn't look as if it had been randomly slapped together in the last minute before publishing. It is certainly a more polished game than Yoshi. Everything is good, what will determine whether you like the game or not is the gameplay.

Graphics were pretty good for NES. The game had some pretty colorful menus and things. The sprites that the game features are finely detailed and nice. What isn't nice is the repetitiveness of the cookies and game screens. Every level looks almost the same. They could of done it where each new level has newer different colored cookies. That was the approach that Wario's Woods had taken and had proved to be very nice.

Sound is fine when the game begins. You may even become impressed. Then you start playing. Everything sounds good. You play longer and longer. Then the song and sound gets boring. You continue on and hear the sound and music scratching away your brain like sandpaper and jello. This was the exact same fate of Yoshi.

Gameplay isn't as bad as sound. You begin with a mass of cookies. Mario throws switches and such to keep the cookies coming. You can slide the cookies around until they match up all the way across. When this happens, the cookies fall out and go somewhere else. The way to win is to clear all of the cookies by matching them up. What I find fun is how fast it can happen. For instance, you may match one set, then that set falls out revealing another set, then another. It goes by fast and combos are really fun. Actually, this game is very addictive. If you sit down and start playing, it grows on you. You'll hate it, then love it.

This game is actually fun. If you like to work your brain in new ways, go for it! If you are a Mario fan or collector, knock yourself out. If you are an NES collector, you can't let this one pass by. If you are none of these, stay away!
