Resident Evil 4 (Wii)

Post by Hyozan »

Survival Horror

As a big fan of the RE series, and having played RE4 for the PC, I was pleased when it was released for the Wii console.

Anyone who has played one of the Resident Evil games knows they always impress. This game was no different.

From the start of the game, the atmosphere is very unnerving and it only gets worse once you turn the corner to enter a house, and your enemies are introduced. Swarms, at times, of these guys come at you relentlessly. Yelling and muttering things in diabolic undertones of spanish. Not to mention the gigantic, freakish entities that you have to face along the way ( One known as El gigantic ).

Thanks to a wonderful control system, it isn't overwhelming and just tends to be good ole fashion 'scare-the-pants-off-you' fun. The Wii remote and nunchuck make running from boulders, round-housing your stunnned enemies, and firing your weapons much more entertaining. To say the least, aiming your weapons is a blessing with the remote. It's much simpler than on the other platforms, so you're able to make more precise shots to convserve precious ammo you find along your journey.

The music of the game only further draws you in to the long ride of suspense that is RE4's storyline. The puzzles aren't daunting, but rather make you think a little and bring a good measure of intelligent design to the table.

If you own a Wii, this game is a must buy simply for the immense reply value and enjoyment of utilizing the Wii's unique control system.

I completely agree. This is one of the best games that I have ever played. I beat it on PS2 and Wii. I even bought that super expensive chainsaw controller (well, got it for my birthday).

Is it any different from the GC or PS2 version (as in story line and levels)

The PS2 had some side-levels where you played as ADA as well as some unlockable suit of armor for Ashley. Oh and Leon had this awesome old school gangster's outfit complete with a tommy gun and a pose.

Dear god, they actually ported ES to a piece of celery!

Yeah, the PS2 had lots of exclusive features, but the GC version had better graphics.

The Wii version has the GC's good graphics, the PS2's extras, and the badass Wiimote controls.

As does the PS2, as does the GC. They don't do progressive scan. Or maybe the PS2 version can do 480p, but not without a special cord.

edit: wtf, Wii can do 480p. You must've been playing it on an HDTV with the standard AV cables.

Badass! :) I wish I had the opportunity to play RE4 with the chainsaw on Wii. I have always been a Resident Evil fan since it came to PS.

I really need to pickup reading the novels soon enough, can't never find the time these days.

I'm not sure but I think I played it, is it a rail shooter? If it's the one I'm thinking of, I hated it... I personally don't like the wii, I find the graphics to be ridiculously bad and the controls are harder to use and less flexible then a simple mouse but that's probably because my brain is wired for PC games.

Nah, this isn't Umbrella Chronicles. That's some shitty Resident Evil spin-off.

I have never heard anybody in my life say that they hated RE4.

Own, and read the entire series. You can definitely see the author grow in skill level as the books progress. ;P

Some are definitely better than others, but I liked them all (probably out of fan-dom for the series...xD)

im glad im not the only one who has read the books. Love them all. my favorite would have to be underworld, i like how it goes the perspective of one of the monsters.
I have not played RE4 on Wii yet, i have it for GC and have beaten it for PS2 and though I have to say it is one of my all time favorite games I just find no reason to buy it for the Wii.
