design and scripting

Post by Benjamin100 »

Does knowing something like Unity really help to get a game designer job?
I feel like I see it a lot on job requirements, but do they actually use Unity to make many major games?
How does Unity work? It appears that it uses some scripting language,
but what does it do?
Is it like the Blender Game Engine?

Sometimes I hear that game designers should know how to program, sometimes I hear how to use Unity, sometimes I hear how to write up design documents.

I really just don't understand what a game designer DOES, or how the heck they get the job.

A game designer may not do any code or any artwork, but may prototype small demos and puzzles to get gameplay working. They may have an overseeing role consisiting of others doing the code and graphics. They work with story writers to develop characters. and liaise with musicians and sound effects people. Some Game Designers do happen to do these other roles.

To use unity to its fullest, you need to be a programmer at least somewhat skilled in c# or similar. Y

OK,

Well the only scripting language I know is python, which works with Blender Game Engine.

Is c# the only one Unity uses?
