Prospectus Alpha 1.0 [wip]

Post by civicdude95 »

Hey guys, I've been hanging around this site for a few months now and I think I should tell you guys about a project that I'm working on. I'm using Xna Game Studio to make a game similar to Terraria and Zelda. I'm keeping up a blog about it

http://jefflamoureux.blogspot.com

Come check it out and let me know what you think about it.
P.S. I'm recording videos of it...

Well I am impressed by both your game and your blog, you seem to put a lot of effort into both and I respect that. Keep up the content.

At this point it's pretty much a straight Terraria clone. The Zelda part will come later. I plan on having dungeons w/bosses, different levels (instead of biomes), and more of a quest-based game (in the style of Zelda that is) than Terraria. Thanks for following!

Never used XNA, well I tried it, but would it be difficult to do it on both? If you were so ever inclined to do so that is.

It's actually really easy to make it for both, you basically have to have different code for the input, display (only minor differences), and data storage stuff. Those are the big differences (which aren't that big), I'm sure there some others as well. The XNA framework itself is designed to run on both, it's just the platform-specific stuff that you have to modify.

Amazing, I came across your blog awhile ago while reading up on terrain generation, never knew you were a part of this forum.

And yeah, epic game you have going. I would have liked for it to be a bit more cross-platform (it's not so much XNA, but .NET can be a pain to install under Wine), but seriously, I hope it goes places. :)

Thanks, I was trying to go for a brown-haired, 2D version of Link from Ocarina of Time
