https://bitbucket.org/

It's free for teams of 5.

Full disclosure: I work for the company that develops bitbucket.

It's a bit like github but I think that costs money for private code repositories.
Damn dude, that's pretty awesome. Private repo with unlimited space, wiki and issue tracking for free??

Yeah that's the reaction we're going for. It's pretty hard to beat if you have a team that is not living together like the ES team.

The only thing I don't like is when you create a new repo it asks for a URL. If gives an error of "Invalid url", but there aren't any examples of what IS valid. Took me a bit to figure out it expected http://bitbucket.org/username/reponame

Hmmm . I just did it and there was a field called "website" which is supposed to mean the website for the project (e.g. elysianshadows.com). If you put something in there it needs to be a valid URL, but it's optional. Is that what you mean or am I misunderstanding?

Didn't realize it was optional (asterisks on required fields would help, as is standard practice). Thanks! ;)

For those out there that use OS X highly recommend these two free applications.

Pixen
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/13363/pixen
Great pixel art application with a simple UI and a great feature to help make sure your tiles fit together seamlessly.

TextWrangler
http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/
Powerful text editor with built in support for web and software developers.

Evernote
http://www.evernote.com/
Available for Windows, OS X, iOS and Android. Fantastic way to keep all your ideas synchronized between your devices or even between team members. You get 50mb of monthly storage for free and can buy more if needed. Possibly my favorite app.

I suppose Game Maker wouldn't count, then, since despite having a free version that does enable one to make games, cuts out on features and slaps on an ugly 'watermark' on the loading screen?

Pyxel Edit - A tile editor. Makes it easy to create your own tile sets and also edit one from some one else. It's in beta but I still find it functional and usefull.
