I just started playing the original Legend of Zelda, and I have to say: THAT'S THE HARDEST GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED! I think I already played 2 or 3 hours (in small playing intervals over the last week), and wasn't able to get to the end of the first dungeon (which is unprecedent in my history of Zelda games).

That and my eternal Skyrim quest, which will probably soon reach a week in play-time.

You think Zelda 1 was hard? OMG, it's a cakewalk compared to Zelda 2.

I have beaten Zelda 1 several times... I don't think I ever beat the first dungeon of Zelda 2.

4) Secret of Mana 2
I can't believe you have played considering how often you praise the original.

Awesome.

I haven't play this one much, but from what I have it's a fantastic fucking game.

I actually have played it with Tvspelsfreak many, many years ago... Didn't get too far, though. I keep meaning to buy a hacked/translated reproduction cart for my SNES so I can play it in English and three player with my multitap. That's the only way I'm willing to play. I want the full experience as I had with the original. :D

I took a few months once and focused my efforts and beat Zelda 2. It wasn't bad, but the same amount of time was better spent with Super Mario 64, unfortunately.

Is it just me? Or do 16-bit graphics age really well? I just setup my Super Nintendo on my HDTV... and man, it is way more fun to play than on skimpy little 25-inch SDTVs. Super Mario World never looked so good. Just got to 99 lives, and I'm heading out to score 100% on my save file. :]

As for games I've been MEANING to play? Too many. Super Metroid. Morrowind. Probably four Humble Bundles worth of indie games.

I'm just waiting for some spare time to see that Zelda on a big screen (though I'll need to find out how to resize mednafen's screen). I'm going to get a ruler just to measure the IPP's (inches per pixel).

Haha nice.

On the flip side, early 3D games do not age well. My wife fired up GoldenEye on the N64 and wow... I swear each texture must have been a 16x16 image stretched across the entire landscape. The triangle count was atrocious. I dare say 2D games look better than that.

I completely agree. The Super Nintendo and Genesis still look really good. Games like Donkey Kong Country, Mario RPG, Yoshi's Island, and Chrono Trigger still look absolutely amazing, imo.

But yeah, early 3D games aged like shit. Late 2D games aged extremely well.

3mm, of course. I don't have a 400 inch television.
