Arce's Platformer Frenzy

Post by Arce »

Yo niggaz! My summer's about 3/4ths over, but one of the classes I am taking is only a 5 week course. Which means, I've got some serious gaming to be doing.

The theme of my summer's gaming is going to be PLATFORMERS. Why? Because of Kendall. She had me playing a Saturn game called Pandemonium, which made me realize how incomplete my repertoire of platformer titles really is.

As such, my summer goal is to find and beat THREE platformers for every Microsoft, Sega, Nintendo, and Sony console. This topic is hereby dedicated to my progress, as well as anybody else here who wishes to join me in my conquests!

I have yet to decide all of my titles, so I am welcome to suggestions. As you make your posts, I will try to update the list below. Please note that the purpose of doing this is not to re-beat your favorite titles, but to find and experience new ones.

To clarify: if you're interested in joining the challenge, just post here and we'll assign you a color. I call #0000FF blue, because it's badass. ;p

Your color will be used to quickly identify yourself in the list above. When you decide on a title to beat, I will place the title followed by your name in the "In Progress" section of the respective console. If a suggestion is made for a given console, it'll also be added to the list (with "guest" color being solid green #00FF00). PWN is where your "In Progress" entry will be moved after you've beaten said game. Example:
Wii:
In Progress:
Super Mario Galaxy 2 <Marcel>

Suggestions:
Donkey Kong Country Returns<Marcel>
Fluidity<Guest>

PWN:
Super Mario Galaxy 1 <Marcel>
edit: oh, right, where it's applicable I'll try to include a date tag as well.

Okay, well I'm interested. I'd like the color teal if it all possible.

list of games interested in beating (the list is incomplete as of right now but I'll post a handful I've never beaten and would be interested in beating)

Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 (Nintendo Wii)
Pandemonium (Sega Saturn)
Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, & 3 (Playstation 1)

Hmm...For NES, I'm going to have to go with some flavor of metroid (simply b/c I've never played it before.) However, I'm not sure what else to do...Suggestions plz? I've googled a few, am considering a Castlevania.

Hell yea, do the original Castlevania! And don't forget to jump over the entrance to the castle in the very first scene. ;)

I highly recommend:

SNES:
Kirby Superstar (my personal favorite platformer)
Yoshi's Island

N64:
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
Donkey Kong 64

Sega Master System:
Double Dragon

Xbox 360:
The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile

PS3:
Flower

And then for the Sega Saturn or PS1, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (there's also the Xbox Live Arcade re-release).

SNES: James Pond Robocod
GENESIS: Kid Chamelion

Just mentioning these because they are the toughest platformers I can remember, esp Kid C - you are looking for a challenge right?

Best Metroid games would be the prime series(I-III) ("lame"cube or wii) and the original Super Metroid for SNES (which is my recommendation).
