Gameboy RPGs

Post by Moosader »

Was wondering if anyone else played / loved them old Gameboy (original) RPGs? They're a random personal favorite of mine.
Definitely Final Fantasy Adventure, but I also like the Final Fantasy Legend games as well. I don't really know of any others, but I like those simple handheld RPGs :3

I also really liked the GBC Daikatana RPG, was pretty fun. :P

Would Pokemon be a candidate for one of these? If not then I don't think so. I was playing them on the SNES in those times though. I started on Mystic Quest and been hooked ever since, hence the ES appeal :D

Pkmn also counts. :D

For some reason, I just really like how simple but fun the GB RPGs can be. Though, due to the small memory size the translations can make the games hard to follow. >>

Final Fantasy Adventure (ala Secret of Mana #0) was a really great game (way better than Zelda 1 in my opinion :3)

and I also liked the FInal Fantasy Legend games, which were actually the first SaGa games. These aren't action RPGs like FFA, but they're kinda neat. You get to create your own party choosing from like 8-ish races (human M/F, mutant M/F, then stuff like Imp, Skeleton, and whatnot).

Pokemon everybody knows, obviously, so no need to describe.

And Daikatana GBC was a pretty neat Action RPG with basic puzzles and such. Kemco did the port (Romero told 'em he wanted it to be Zelda-styled), and I LOVE Kemco. They did Shadowgate, DejaVu, and I think stuff like Embassy: The Rescue Mission, Drahkken, and Dragon View.

Yay Pokemon counts! I put way too many hours into Pokemon Red when I was younger... then once I beat it I got a gameshark and hunted for those dumbass pokegods because I wanted to believe in all those ridiculous rumors. :D

Dear god, they actually ported ES to a piece of celery!

Holy Shit! Somebody else who's played Drakkhen! That was a great game for it's time! Me and my brother are the only people I've known to play it until now...

Have you played Dragon View? It's the sequel. It's a pretty neat game. Inside levels are side scrolling fighter, plus RPG bits, but the overworld is still the 3D style of Drahkken's overworld. It's much more polished, and really fun~.

Also, it's one of the few games I've seen that sound like a book, where dialog boxes will read something like,
"Ha ha! Good!" Damme exclaims, "That's 10,000 sword thrusts!"
"Well, well... aren't you energetic this morning?" He jibes

etc.etc.

No, as a matter of fact I have not. I'll have to track down the ROM. Sounds great, thanks!

Back in my day before they all these colored vidja games and alpha channels, I played tons of GB RPGs.

I had at least 30 or 40 beaten by the time I was 10, don't remember most of their titles because I sold them off in pawne shops after I beat them, which I regret.

Pokemon Red/Yellow/Blue(All 3)
Final Fantasy Legends 1-3

IMO the best games on GBO were platformers like Doraemon and Super Mario Land

I think the best RPGs were on the Gameboy Color.
Lufia: The Legend Returns
Zelda: Oracle Series (technically Action/Adventure, but enough n00bz count it as an RPG)
I'm an altogether bad-natured Cupid.
