Another one bites the dust...

Post by trufun202 »

Sunday, September 13th 2009 - time of death, 11:43 PM. My 360 officially got the red ring of death. :x

Two of my friends have had their 360s die on them, and the one had work had to be fixed as well. I just thought I was one of the lucky ones that had a working console...apparently not.

/sigh, damnit.

Too late, the free warranty extension has expired. I had one that RRoD'd once, friend of mine's did it twice, another friend's did it once. I don't think there are any "lucky ones". Latest gameinformer has a comparison on failure rates, 360's failure rate is ~55% of respondents, PS3 is like 20%, Wii is like 6%.

You know, I think I saw you come online when you started the session that it failed in :)
I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.

Gawh, yeah mine did that last week (it was my second one). Luckily, I bought a protection plan through the store for an entire year, and it was still good. I guess Microsoft sent a replacement or something, but it was a brick, so I had to take that back, too. o_o; So I guess I'm on my fourth Xbox 360 now. >_>

trufun, the warranty for 3 red rings still stands at 3 years. I know this because I just sent mine out last week :-P. Although I went out and bought a new one at BestBuy anyways and got the replacement plan (much easier and quicker turn around on broken consoles, I'm on my 5th).

Jeebus! I think if my 360 dies again, I'm just going to kick it and save up for an Open Pandora instead (well, I'm doing the latter anyways).
I've already decided not to make games on a platform I can't rely on. -_-;
Why let MS make money off of me that way if they can't even provide us with a stable console? Replacing 'em 5 times? Srsly? t( 8-) t)

I hope it isn't bad luck if I mention that my xbox is still in working order *touches wood*

But there's always the constant fear that my xbox of 2 years will RRoD on me...

Wrap it in a towel.

But seriously, if you're out of warranty and it's a sitting brick, you can read up online how to open it up and reapply the heatsink. It can be fixed in most cases.

Wrapping it in a towel prolonged the life of Peter's Xbox 360 by at least another month. I'm sure it's not exactly good for the system, though.

But seriously, this is absolutely unforgivable. In the history of gaming, Xbox 360 has the shittiest track record for faulty/error-prone hardware. I personally wish that I could strangle some Microsoft high-up in the computer engineering department for such incompetence.

I'm waiting for my 360 to die as well...

Reminds me of this...
http://www.stumbleupon.com/s/#9nzJ5g/tc ... 0Equipment

I was quite fortunate with mine. I managed to sell it before all that red ring of suck happened. Although my 360 did destroy 3 copies of Rainbow 6 vegas, two copies of Oblivion, a copy of Mass Effect and my only copy of Amored Core. The loss of Armored Core ultimately forced my decision to sell the damn thing.

I have friends who have had their 360 give up on them several times. It got to a point where it wasn't a case of who is online to play against/with, but whose 360 still worked.

Sucks, for this reason only I never wanted to buy one. Would be just a waste if I needed to bring it back every time. Nah I'll just stick with my NES and SNES :)

I think I read the failure rate was about 27.3% of all systems, which is the highest of any console.
