Re: How to get the x coordinate and y coordinate of tilesheet
I currently have a problem finding the x and y coordinates of a tilesheet with a Tile Id or index. What I need is a way to get the x index and y index of a tile on a tilesheet from an index. Given index x coordinate (in terms of tiles) will be index modulo width y coordinate (in terms of tiles) wil...

Re: Mistakes in game design
I take criticism from people who have given me a reason to respect them. You have demonstrated nothing but jealousy, lack of experience, and a sense of self-righteousness that you have yet to demonstrate you have earned. This is the textbook definition of narcissism. Last time I checked, narcissism...

Re: Mistakes in game design
I wrote a lengthy reply to first few people, but stupid IE deleted post after misprint, so I summarize what I said: @pritam: Face reality. @N64vSNES: The team learned a lot during project. They definately improved their engine, graphics, etc - but not some of their fundamental flaws. A good engine i...

Re: 2D Dynamic Lighting Tutorial
It is very nice of you to write such an example, however I wanted to point out that there are numerous flaws in your method and that this code should not be used in game. You should spend some time and optimize it. I'm sure he's quite aware of this. Perhaps pointing a few of them out and suggesting...

Re: Mistakes in game design
I agree that it is very annoying to have people bash you for all your work. I also agree that game dev should be fun - otherwise it is not worth doing. I want to clear some things up: I directing my hate at gyrovorbis's attitude towards me. He has acted very unprofessionally to me, despite being lea...

Re: Mistakes in game design
Why didn't you stop there and thank him, instead of feeling the need to rant on about his opinion? Speaking of arrogance, just read the rest of your response. I did not mean my reply to be hostile - Xian's thoughts certainly made me appreciate "ES" more. I was originally going to post a r...

Just keep it consistant.
CamelCase is usually for java, but I prefer it in c++.
Most c++/c uses lowercase and "_"

Re: Mistakes in game design
I thank you for responding without use of screaming/namecalling. 1 - While it works to have 10 artists do a mishmash over course of whole project, it is much easier to wait until very very later on in production to begin art. I realize that it is very easy to point out mistake of getting artist earl...

Also, since you guys on IRC wanted source to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1z-yw5LtLs Here it is: http://www.host-a.net/u/pubby8/console_terrain.rar (compile on GCC with -msse) (intel might work too) It was written in about 4 hours as basecode for the last ludum dare competition. Mistakes in game design (whining newbie)
I tried to explain to Gyrovorbis this on his fanboy-filled IRC channel, but he cowarded away, and so I post it here: Gyrovorbis has made lots of mistakes developing his game. These are all honest mistakes, but the problem is that he keeps making the same ones. I post this here not to tear him down -...

The colors are dull.
Lacks any form of shading or contrast.
The shapes are inorganic and have ugly edges between them.
Try harder.
