which 3d model format would you recommend for a game? What do you think of Collada, milkshape, and wavefront?

OpenGL question

What would you recommend using with OpenGL?
All the books I can find use glut with OpenGL, but I already have knowledge with SDL, do you know of any books that use SDL with OpenGL? Is glut better to use with OpenGL?

c++ reading from a file

I would like my program to read a file that has something like this:
name: test
health: 5
as you can see it has variables and what I would like to assign to them, should I go for a scripting language for this, or should I just use c++'s fstream?

Re: my first lua program

Thanks for the help, that worked but then I had a runtime error "PANIC: unprotected error in call to Lua API (no calling environment)". I'll post the solution for anyone else who is new at this. I needed to replace anything that had luaopen_ in front of it with " luaL_openlibs (pL);&q...

Re: my first lua program

as far as I know I'm using the correct libs, I tried "g++ main.cpp -llua5.1 -llualib" and got the same error message. I've searched in /usr/lib/ and those seem like the only lua libs.

my first lua program

I'm trying to compile a c++ program that uses lua in gcc and am getting this compile error when I use g++ main.cpp -o test "main.cpp:27: error: ‘lua_dofile’ was not declared in this scope" any idea on what I'm doing wrong? extern "C" { #include <lua5.1/lua.h> //these includes...

Re: PS2 region coding

I was browsing the unanswered posts and found this, the answer is yes it does have region coding for all games, NTSC for North America and Japan, and PAL for Europe. The reason for the difference has to do with colour currents. I'm pretty sure there is a converter for the ps2, I'm not sure if you ha...

Re: Meaning of Life

my first thoughts about this was as leon blade said, but then there would be no point to anything, we must somehow contribute to something, I think a better question is why does life on earth exist. If we can't find even bacteria on other planets, how did life even start?

random numbers

I have a program that generates random numbers, for an array of classes, when I initialize the array it sets 2 variables to random integers. The problem I am having is the random integers are always the same for each instance of the class. I am currently using a do while loop to check to see if the ...

Re: who thinks there should be a game dev tutorial or help?

why don't you do lusikkamage's competition? I find the best way to learn is by doing projects, for example if you're bad with reading/writing text to a file, make a hangman game that gets the words to be used from a file.
