Re: Spriting characters and such

Hello, It's been a while, but I'm back with an update. I finished (term taken loosely) a run cycle, but that's about it. Since I don't know how to create a GIF file (and don't feel like looking it up at the moment), all I can show you is a sprite sheet, so... http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/5599/...

Re: Spriting characters and such

Alright, I have another question: Is it considered "acceptable" to make this guy 64x64? 32x64 seems a little crowded for a guy of this size, so any suggestions? Any help is welcome, and once again, thanks for putting up with my ignorance on this subject :P

Re: Spriting characters and such

Thanks for the posts and such, i did a little touch up, not really worth showing, but now i have a slightly bigger problem. Animation, and a run/walk cycle. I've never been too good at animation myself, but I've always wanted to learn, and there's no time like the present. I guess it's just a matter...

Re: Spriting characters and such

Alright, a little update, added the pink "transparent" background, gave him a gun, and a second arm (finally), and I'm over all pleased. Tell me what you think:

maybe the gun's a little hard to see, but maybe thats the pink bg talking.

Re: Spriting characters and such

Alright, coming back with an update. yeah, I'm not sure what I was thinking with 32x48, so i edited it, made it 32x64, but something still doesn't seem to fit... I dunno, maybe it's just me. Here it is, tho: http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/3114/lavaman.png *edit* oh yeah, i forgot to mention that i...

Re: Spriting characters and such

True, but if i expand up, i won't have room up top for a head bob while running, seeing as i've only got a couple pixels to work with. Still, thanks for the crit. Maybe i can make him a 32-48 or something to give a little more room to make him bigger... I'll see how that works out

Re: Woot My Very First Sprite From Scratch

I've got a suggestion, try looking up online something called "anti-aliasing". It's a very useful skill to have, so you don't have to rely on evil tools such as the gradient. shading is a very good way to give your sprites depth and color. And great job on your first sprite. I "Love&q...

Re: Spriting characters and such

Hello, and thanks for all the replies. The links were (for the most part) helpful, I knew some of it already, but that's OK, doesn't hurt to go over things again. But I think that one of the main setback (at least for me) is being unsure of your abilities, and your willingness to try something new. ...

Spriting characters and such

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows a good tutorial or reference on spriting humans and people and such. I can make a good fighter ship, strange monsters, tiles (kind of), and some other assorted things, but for the life of me just can't figure out the right proportions. Any help i can get is app...

Re: Official "Hello, World! (I'm new!)" thread

Hello everyone, Will's the name, I'm new here, but not to programming. I've been into this field since 12, got started in java, kind of a jump straight in, i know, but i caught on pretty quick. A year in, i started learning C++, and have been ever since. only a year ago did i "try" to lear...
